This metallic glass print features a solitary Eastern Yellow Robin perched on a strand of barbed wire, its delicate form and bright yellow belly sharply in focus against a gently blurred tapestry of green paddocks. The bird’s poised stance and the linear rhythm of the fence create a serene yet striking composition.
I shot this image on a beautiful farm in Broken River, which shares a boundary with Eungella National Park west of Mackay, Queensland. On that crisp morning, the Robin alighted on the barbed wire fence for a full five minutes, allowing me to quietly observe and capture its calm presence among the wide-open landscape.
What I love most about this metallic glass print is the unexpected contrast the barbed wire provides, a rugged counterpoint to the Robin’s soft feathers and the muted background. The fence line stands out crisply, balancing the scene while drawing your eye back to the bird as the true focal point. That balance between wild fragility and simple structure gives this metallic glass print a subtle tension and harmony all at once.
