I photographed her at Broken River in Eungella, where a whole family of fairywrens skipped through the grasses. Red-backed Fairywrens live in cooperative groups, with males shifting into vivid black and red during breeding season while females keep soft buff tones for perfect camouflage. In this instant she paused from foraging, scanning the surrounds so the others could feed and play in safety.
What I love most about this metallic glass print is how her modest colouring glows against the saturated green container and blue sky, turning a quiet moment into a gentle drama.
