Metallic glass print hanging on wall above sofa showing Scarlet Honeyeater on Bottlebrush

This metallic glass print captures a male Scarlet Honeyeater poised over a bursting bottlebrush, its crimson crown and throat glowing against a soft, painterly green. The side profile is razor sharp, right down to the pollen dusting near his bill and the fine texture of each scarlet filament. The scene feels alive yet calm, a moment of balance as the bird hangs, weightless, above the bloom.

Photographed near Broken River in Eungella National Park during September, this species arrives with the spring flush, following nectar through flowering forests. Scarlet Honeyeaters are tiny, fast and fearless, using a brush-tipped tongue to sip nectar and sometimes hover like a miniature sunbird. Males wear the showy red, females keep softer olive tones, and both help pollinate native blossoms as they feed.

What I love most about this metallic glass print is the exquisite clarity of that scarlet profile, the visible smear of nectar, and the deep brown eye returning the gaze. The blurred bokeh and gentle greens cradle the bird and bloom, turning speed into stillness. It is a vivid, joyful slice of spring, rendered with the luminous depth that a metallic glass print brings.
