Fairywren Halo - Metallic Glass Print

Metallic glass print hanging on the wall, featuring a Red-backed Fairywren on a wire in soft green grass

This metallic glass print captures a male Red-backed Fairywren perched on a thin wire, tail flicked high and alert against a soft wash of green. His velvet black plumage is slashed with vivid crimson, a tiny ember glowing in the paddock. The shallow depth of field lets the bird sit crisp and close, every feather edge and fine claw rendered with stunning clarity.

Photographed in a grassy paddock near Broken River, this pocket-sized songbird is one of Australia’s smallest, yet one of the boldest in colour. Males blaze red and black in breeding season, then moult to brown outside it, while family groups skitter through grass hunting insects. They cock their tails as they bounce from stem to stem and weave domed nests low in cover.

What I love most about this metallic glass print is how such a tiny bird, no bigger than a matchbox car, fills the frame with character. The creamy green background stays beautifully blurred, so the wren’s red mantle and jet tail pop in breathtaking contrast as he balances on the wire. It is simple, crisp, and captivating, a joyful spark of colour and life.
